The perfect chance to make my patented, space-age, out of this world MOON waffles! Let’s see here…
…caramel…

Mmmmmm, waffle runoff…

We can all agree the Simpsons have gone on longer than they should have. 23 (and at least 25, if not more) seasons is a long time to be on the air, and with the same cast, and largely the same producers and writers, too. I’ve had my complaints about the quality of the show over the last decade or so (though the real problems have occurred since about the mid-2000s, I think), just like everyone else. But it’s so fashionable to shit on the Simpsons these days and say seasons 1-9 are the only good ones. I dislike this attitude. I try not to be cynical when it comes to the Simpsons (try, being the operative word, but sometimes, like the case with this season’s blowful Halloween episode, it’s hard not to be). It’s been my favorite show since I was 6 years old. I’ve been there since “Bart Gets Hit By a Car,” and remember getting a Bart poster with the words “Underachiever: And Proud of It, Man!” on it (which I still have) and jumping on the bed and singing along to “Simpsons Sing the Blues.” I remember watching Simpsons reruns everyday after school in times before the Internet and DVDs. Is “The Man In the Blue Flannel Pants,” aired last night, funnier than “Mr. Plow,” or “Homer Badman,” or “You Only Move Twice?” Of course, not, but I still eagerly await every new Simpsons episode and try to find the best that I can in it. Like most people, I think a change in writers and a new show runner (come on, Al Jean, you’ve been the boss since season, what, 13?) would do the Simpsons good, but I’m still happy that OFF is still around. I can’t imagine a world without new Simpsons to look forward to, whether they be great, mediocre, or downright terrible. To me, the Simpsons are still the Simpsons, not “zombie Simpsons,” which is a term thrown around a lot these days, and as a diehard Simpsons nut, I find sort of offensive.
End communication.
